MV Agusta 750 Sport

MV Agusta 750 Sport

Photo Credit: John H Glimmerveen Licensed to About.com
Loosely developed from the company’s Grand Prix racers, 750S is a DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft) in-line four cylinder 4-stroke with shaft final drive.
The actual engine capacity was 790-cc. However, the original engine was a 600-cc unit that had been developed for street use from the Mike Hailwood and John Surtees 500 GP winning racers.
Considered by many to be one of the best looking classics of all time, the MV attracts classic collectors everywhere, which keeps the prices relatively high

A BSA Goldstar alongside a Z1300………Classic Bikes

A BSA Goldstar alongside a Z1300………Classic Bikes

Take a look around our small but efficient and functional Workshop.

A recent rebuild of a BSA Rocket III Mk1, amazingly it was on the original Std. bores. Not any more though, 25,000 miles and 38 years latera rebore is necessary.

Rocket III and CBX 1000 rebuild

We have just completed several Triton engines and a rebuild of a 748 Ducati, and a Honda CBX 1000 six as well as the day to day servicing and repairs on BMWs, Harley Davidsons, B.S.A.s, Nortons and Triumphs both old and new.

Workshop equipment includes a very useful 20 Tonne hydraulic press, Myford Lathe, surface table, MIG welder, Wolf pillar drill and numerousvernier callipers, micrometers, dial gauges and vacuum gauges etc.
Please note that the workshop is run for service, repair and diagnostics purposes and is not a 'machine shop', I haven't the space, so if any specialized precision engineering is required (re-grinding, valve seat insertion etc), it is contracted out to a trusted and reliable local engineering firm whose work is guaranteed and well up to my high standards.
You may find cheaper, but you will not find better - Remember cheaper work means just that…..cheap!

Cosmo is a fully qualified and Factory trained Technician engineer with over 30 years experience on motorcycles and a member of the I.M.I.(Institute of the Motor Industry). He has worked for a prestigious Norton Triumph main dealer for many years as well as the RAC where he has taken modern diagnostic training.
He has served in the R.E.M.E. Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a Vehicle Mechanic. So if you’ve got a 432 Armoured Personal Carrier and it needs a service please give him a ring………..only joking, but military motorcycles such as Armstrongs, Harley 45’s, BSA B40’s are most welcome.

Cosmo has competed himself and can Race prepare and fettle all your classic machinery for compliance with ACU rules and regulations and durability.

All mechanical work is carried out with care and attention to detail. We do not use the ‘brute force and ignorance’ methods which unfortunately seems to be only too common in some workshops these days.
We undertake all electrical work as Cosmo is a qualified electrical technician.

Labour is charged at £50.00 per hour plus VAT. We provide a collection and delivery service locally for just £40.00 plus VAT, we do pick up bikes from further afield at an agreed set cost.

If you wish to book work in, have an enquiry or just want a chat please ring Cosmo on 01424 437719.

We work on ALL classics old and modern, British, Italian, American, German and Japanese, we don’t care, we love them all.

Some bikes will never be Classics, no matter how old (you know the ones I’m referring to!) and some machines were classics the day they came out of the crate, for example the gorgeous Ducati 916.

Cosmo Classic Motorcycles

Cosmo Classic Motorcycles was set up by Evan Cosmos 'Cosmo' ENG TECH AMIMI AMIRTE AMSOE in 2001 as a specialist motorcycle repair business for classic British, Italian, German, American and Japanese Motorcycles. Cosmo is more than qualified and able to service and repair modern machines from BMW 16v's and Pan Europeans to Fireblades and Ducati 916's etc. if asked to do so, and often does.

Customers always ask me what bike I ride or own, well I am lucky enough to be able to ride any bike we have in stock, ah what a job, it's a hard life. The only bike I actually own and my weapon of choice is my original and totally unrestored UK Kawasaki Z1B. We have been together many years and many other bikes have come and gone including such bikes as a Vincent Rapide, a BSA DBD Goldstar and a Norvin Black Shadow.

Cosmo on the 'Cosmo Classics' Rob North Trident howling around Brands Hatch on a damp January this year. Why not come and watch Cosmo race at Cadwell Park on 6th/7tht of September with the CRMC in the Formula 750 class?

You will not be able to miss Cosmo as he will have his bright orange 'Rookie' vest on as he is still acquiring enough points to get his full Clubman licence.

1969 Triumph Bonneville

Triumph Bonneville bobber
I find low-key, vintage bobbers irresistible, and this 1969 Triumph Bonneville from Johannesburg is a classic in more ways than one. It belongs to Justin Steyn, who started the project way back in 2009.
The style is utterly timeless, and like many of the best bikes, deceptively simple. The build process was anything but, though. It started when Justin bought a basket case oil-in-frame Triumph 650 from a friend: “I had two wheels, a frame and an engine—and little idea where to start,” he admits. He eventually found a old-school Triumph specialist, Peter Moody, who completely overhauled the engine.

Then things got tough. “There were no hardtails available for the oil-in-frame models,” says Justin, “so I couldn’t get the basic rolling chassis going. Then Peter found a complete 1969 Bonneville, minus its engine.” The build started to come together, literally.
Tiago from local workshop OneOne Customs stripped and prepped the tank. And Justin discovered a whole new world of fellow bobber aficionados. “A few of us would meet at OneOne a few times a week to work on our bobbers, using Tiago’s equipment and bugging him for advice … As each mate made progress and another bike was fired up, we would cheer in excitement and each have a ride on the brakeless deathtrap late at night. Good times!”

From the USA came a bolt-on hardtail from Choppahead—with a 4” stretch and a 2” drop—plus a handmade oil tank, a Vincent taillight and a Biltwell seat. “Once the parts were in my hands, things started to get moving, Tiago taught me how to weld, and I got cracking on the seat, chain tensioner and oil tank mounts.”
Drawing inspiration from the web, Justin decided on Ferrari blue, red and brass for his classic color scheme. Spokes were ordered from the UK, and Justin was lucky enough to secure a batch of untreated brass spoke nipples too. “Henry Kinnear built the wheels and did the spray job on the rims, and when I saw the end result I asked him to help out with the spray work on the frame, fender and tank.”

“Henry and I worked on getting the bike together, bit by bit, taking parts off for brass or paint and then re-fitting.” And although the Bonneville wasn’t fully finished, with exposed wiring and no leatherwork, Justin decided to enter it into a local bike show. He took second place in his class.
After blowing up a battery on the ride to the show, he got a leather battery box made (and the seat done) by Dion of Leatherman D in Pretoria. Peter Moody finished the wiring, fitted new Amal carbs and tuned the engine.
And now she’s done. Beautiful, wouldn’t you say?
